Prenuptial Counseling
In recent years, both in our country and in the world, the ratio of divorces are on the rise. This in turn, increases the demand for “Marriage Counseling” services and consequently prompt both researchers and professionals working in the field to examine the subject more deeply. The researches done on this issue show the marriage and couple therapy mechanisms that enable people to cope with their problems, has an aspect that can be developed and with interventions and developments in the field, suggest that problems in question may be prevented before they occur. When we examine these studies abroad, which can be categorized under the heading of “Preventive Exercises”, a drop in the ratio of divorces and a significant contribution in prevention of domestic violence and conflicts can be observed. In this context, “Prenuptial Counseling” has a significant importance in both facilitating the transition process to marriage, and in solving the difficulties before they turn into crisis as well as couples’ adapting to marriage and getting to know each other better.
Prenuptial Counseling has three principal features: it is educational, constructive and preventive. In this context, the targets in Prenuptial Counseling are as follows:
1. Facilitating the transition to married life,
2. Enabling the continuity of short and long term satisfaction of the couples in the relationship,
3. Increasing the communication skills,
4. Increasing intimacy and commitment,
5. Strengthening atmosphere of trust and
6. Strengthening problem solving and decision making skills.
